Engine Gains Could Aid 737 Derivatives
Seattle—Improvements to the CFM International CFM56 engine and favorable reaction to its in-service performance are brightening the outlook for the Boeing 737-300 and the next possible derivative of the 737 twinjet, the 737-400. A derated version of the General Electric/Snecma powerplant also is being studied for the 737-250, a preliminary design effort on yet another 737 derivative, this one a 100-seater (AW&ST June 6, p. 29).
