Engine Gains Could Aid 737 Derivatives

Seattle—Improvements to the CFM International CFM56 engine and favorable reaction to its in-service performance are brightening the outlook for the Boeing 737-300 and the next possible derivative of the 737 twinjet, the 737-400. A derated version of the General Electric/Snecma powerplant also is being studied for the 737-250, a preliminary design effort on yet another 737 derivative, this one a 100-seater (AW&ST June 6, p. 29).

Israel May Advance Astra Certification

Tel Aviv—Israel Aircraft Industries might advance the certification date of its latest business jet aircraft, the Model 1125 Westwind Astra, the first prototype of which was rolled out here earlier this month. The manufacturer had planned to receive certification for the aircraft in August, 1985, to improve its competitive position.

GMT Korean Air Lines Flight 015 from Los Angeles to Seoul called the center and said it was forwarding a report that the Anchorage to Seoul aircraft had passed over Nabie and would be over Neeva, the next checkpoint, in about 1 hr. 14 min.
