Washington—Defense Dept.’s procurement policies are aimed at expanding the country’s industrial base, particularly at the subcontractor level. The effort to stop the erosion of the industrial base is reflected in the Defense Dept.’s policies to recruit small and disadvantaged businesses to explore subcontract opportunities with prime contractors supplying equipment and services to the military.

Washington—Businesses wanting to sell products or services to the Transportation Dept, have several basic approaches available to them that have been outlined by this Cabinet-level agency. After first making certain that the company is on the appropriate bidder’s mailing lists in local and national offices of the department’s agencies—forms are available for this purpose—company officials are urged to develop a general awareness of program requirements and potential procurement requirements.
