Xian, China—The People’s Republic of China is preparing to build a large transonic wind tunnel at the Chinese Aeronautical Research and Development Center northwest of Chengdu and may be interested in making the effort a joint project, possibly with the Europeans.

Brussels—World airlines have posted an estimated net profit of more than $1 billion for 1984, which would be their first net profit since 1979, and an operating profit of about $3.5 billion. The profits came from growth of nearly 9% in passenger traffic and 14% in cargo.
