Two New Trainers Enter Market Following Displays at Farnborough

London—Two all-new trainers and a version of an existing aircraft entered the crowded military trainer market with displays at the Farnborough air show last month. The new entrants are the Promavia F1300 NGT Squalus, a Belgian-built light jet trainer, and the Valmet L-90TP, a light turboprop aircraft.

Boeing Studies Closely Spaced Launch of 7j7 Aircraft Programs

Seattle—Boeing Co. is exploring the feasibility of launching a second, smaller new aircraft 6-12 months after kicking off its 7J7 program, a new-technology 150-passenger transport it plans to introduce in 1992. The later aircraft would be in the 100110-passenger category, and would incorporate much of the new technology being developed for the larger transport, including use of the ultrabypass engine (UBE).

Goodyear Proposes High-technology Airship for Navy Surveillance Role

Akron, Ohio—New-technology version of a basic airship design already proved in active Navy service marks Goodyear Aerospace Corp.’s candidate for the U. S. Navy’s surveillance airship program. A request for proposals for a long-endurance airship to provide surveillance and communications, command and control (C3) functions for the fleet at sea was issued by Naval Air Systems Command Aug. 15 with a due date of Sept. 29 (AW&ST Sept. 8, p. 39).
