Ntsb Examines Conditions Leading to Dallas/ft. Worth Accident

On Aug. 2, 1985, at 1805:52 CDT, Delta Air Lines Flight 191, a Lockheed L-1011-385-1, N726DA, crashed while approaching to land on Runway 17L at the Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport, Tex. While passing through the rain shaft beneath a thunderstorm, Flight 191 entered a microburst that the pilot was unable to traverse successfully.

Development Problems Delay Full B-1b Operational Capability

Washington—Development problems encountered with some of the systems in the Air Force/Rockwell International B-1B are delaying the bomber’s ability to fully carry out its operational combat role for one to two years. The Air Force said the B-1B achieved initial operational capability at Dyess AFB, Tex., on Oct. 1, as planned (AW&ST Oct. 6, p. 30).
