Supreme Court Overturns Injunction Blocking Delta-Western Merger

Atlanta—Delta Air Lines’ merger with Western Airlines, which created the fourth largest U. S. commercial air carrier, became official Apr. 1 following a lastminute decision by a U. S. Supreme Court justice. Hours before the merger was to have taken place, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor overturned a lower court injunction blocking the move until arbitration could resolve the issue of union representation for Western employees.
