Government Heading Inquiry Into Nation’s Oxidizer Supply
Los ANGELES/WASHINGTON The loss of a key solid rocket oxidizer plant on May 4 has resulted in an annual shortfall of 12-16 million lb. of oxidizer, according to initial government estimates (AW&ST May 9, p. 17). The Pacific Engineering and Production Co. plant that blew up near Henderson, Nev., was planning to produce 20 million lb. of ammonium perchlorate (AP) oxidizer in 1988, out of a capacity of 30 million lb.
