Systems Command Chief Calls Program Management Consolidation 'Ill-Advised’

WASHINGTON Consolidation of Air Force weapon program management in the service’s headquarters organization, ordered in January as an acquisition reform, is “fundamentally ill-advised” and should be reconsidered, according to the commander of the Air Force Systems Command.

Sikorsky Rolls Out MH-60K Prototype; First Flight Expected This Summer

STRATFORD, CONN. Sikorsky Aircraft last week rolled out the prototype MH-60K helicopter, a derivative of the UH-60 Black Hawk that has been specifically designed for meeting the short-range mission requirements of special operations forces. External differences between the MH-60K and the UH-60 include the new aircraft’s multi-mode, terrain-following/ terrain-avoidance radar housed in the nose of the aircraft, a forward-looking infrared sensor installed in a chin turret and an aerial refueling probe located on the right side of the aircraft (see photo below).

Status of major U. S., European defense, aerospace programs

Sweeping political changes in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, ongoing East-West arms reduction negotiations and tightening fiscal constraints have led to the cancellation of a number of weapon system programs and have left the future of others in doubt. Weapon system priorities are being reassessed around the globe in light of changing world events and the likelihood of significant force structure changes.
