Canadians Add Sensors, Defenses to CH-124As

BOSTON The Canadian Forces have added sensors and countermeasures equipment to six CH-124A Sea King helicopters to convert them to a surface surveillance role in the Persian Gulf and to provide self-protection capability. The conversion of the Sea Kings from an antisubmarine warfare role to a surface surveillance role in the Persian Gulf includes the addition of a nose-mounted forward looking infrared system which can produce a photographic record of any vessel sighted.

European Governments R each Funding Deal Clearing Way for NH-90 Helicopter Development

PARIS European governments cooperating in the NH-90 program have agreed on a new funding arrangement which will clear the way for development of the twin-engine multirole helicopter. Government officials said France will assume an increased share in the helicopter’s 1.4 billion European accounting unit (ECU) (about $1 billion) development, taking over a portion that will not be financed by Italy due to that country’s defense budget constraints.
