Canadians Add Sensors, Defenses to CH-124As

BOSTON The Canadian Forces have added sensors and countermeasures equipment to six CH-124A Sea King helicopters to convert them to a surface surveillance role in the Persian Gulf and to provide self-protection capability. The conversion of the Sea Kings from an antisubmarine warfare role to a surface surveillance role in the Persian Gulf includes the addition of a nose-mounted forward looking infrared system which can produce a photographic record of any vessel sighted.

U. S. Buying Soviet Topaz 2 To Boost Space Nuclear Power Program

A consortium of U. S. agencies headed by the Strategic Defense Initiative Office is planning to buy a Soviet Topaz 2 space nuclear power system, a purchase that USSR officials and Topaz’s U. S. importer hope will open a significant market for this advanced Soviet space technology in the U. S.

European Governments R each Funding Deal Clearing Way for NH-90 Helicopter Development

PARIS European governments cooperating in the NH-90 program have agreed on a new funding arrangement which will clear the way for development of the twin-engine multirole helicopter. Government officials said France will assume an increased share in the helicopter’s 1.4 billion European accounting unit (ECU) (about $1 billion) development, taking over a portion that will not be financed by Italy due to that country’s defense budget constraints.

LOS ANGELES The Lockheed/Boeing/General Dynamics advanced tactical fighter prototype demonstrated it could maneuver far beyond stall angles of attack as well as exceed Mach 2, in tests conducted at the end of its demonstration/validation program.
