NEW YORK The U. S. Navy last week formally terminated Grumman Corp.’s F-14D remanufacturing program, increasing the odds that the company eventually will be forced out of the airframe business. About 400 employees who worked on the $788-million program are expected to receive layoff notices during the next two weeks.

LOS ANGELES Douglas Aircraft Co. recently completed flap impingement tests on the C-17 transport’s Pratt & Whitney F117-PW-100 engine at Douglas’ Quartzite, Ariz., test facility. Portions of the high-lift blown flap system were mounted on the fixture.

USAF/SDI Space Shuttle Flight to Execute Complex Maneuvers

WASHINGTON The Air Force/Strategic Defense Initiative shuttle Mission 39 flight is to use the most complex manned orbital operations of the shuttle program to obtain data important for development of new military surveillance satellites and missile intercept vehicles.
