WASHINGTON Boeing’s redesigned version of the AGM-131A short-range attack missile passed a critical test last week, but the fate of the $2.2-billion program is still in doubt. The latest test of the SRAM-2 capped off a series of studies and tests by Boeing and the U. S. Air Force to verify modifications to the missile’s rocket motor, guidance computer and software.

INDIANAPOLIS Allison Gas Turbines has successfully tested a small, ultra-high-temperature turbine designated the GMA900 whose derivatives could power either supersonic unmanned aerial vehicles or missiles. During recent tests performed under the U. S. Air Force’s expendable turbine engine concept program, the powerplant ran under conditions simulating speeds up to Mach 3.5 and altitudes up to 90,000 ft.
