Ariane to Launch Mexican Satellites, Plans Nine Missions for Next Year

EVRY, FRANCE Arianespace has booked two Mexican satellites for launches on its boosters in 1993-94, bringing the organization’s backlog of commercial launch service orders to 34 with a combined value of about $2.5 billion. The Solidaridad 1 and 2 telecommunications satellites will be orbited by separate Ariane 4 launchers in late 1993 and early 1994.

Pratt Defines Development Path For F100 Fighter Engine Family

NEw YORK Pratt & Whitney has defined a development path for the F100 family that could boost the power of production engines from the current 29,000-lb.-thrust of the F100-229 to around 35,000 lb. by the mid-1990s. Pratt expects to begin ground design verification tests of the 35,000-lb.-thrust engine, known as the IPE-94, next month at its West Palm Beach, Fla., facility.
