GE and Pratt Propose Offsets In Finnish-Fighter Engine Bids
NEW YORK Pratt & Whitney and General Electric are offering comprehensive offset plans worth hundreds of millions of dollars each in bids to supply powerplants for Finland’s DX fighter aircraft program. Under the DX competition, which could be settled by early May, Finland plans to procure 60 fighters and seven trainers beginning in 1995-96 from a field consisting of the General Dynamics F-16 powered by Pratt & Whitney F100-229s or General Electric FI 10-129s; McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 with the General Electric F404; Saab JAS-39 with the Volvo/General Eectric RM 12, a derivative of the F404; and a version of the Dassault-Breguet Mirage 2000 with the Snecma M88.
