USAF BOMBER FORCE COULD DROP TO 100

LANGLEY AFB, VA. The U. S. Air Force, which will take delivery of the first B-2 from Northrop later this month, could reduce its total bomber force, including B-1s and B-52s, to as low as 100 deployable aircraft by the end of the decade. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Merrill A. McPeak said, "We have a balancing act underway here in which we have to phase over time the right combination of bomber capabilities."
