WASHINGTON Senior military and aerospace industry officials have conceded that no AIM9X Sidewinder air-to-air missile contract award will be made until Fiscal 1 995 because Congress has blocked release of a request for proposals, thereby triggering up to a six-month delay in the program.

Active Army Disbands Last Hawk Battalion

BOSTON The U.S. Army has deactivated the last of its Hawk missile battalions, leaving just four battalions in the Army National Guard even though 20 allied nations including South Korea continue to use the system. Last week as a battalion of Patriot missiles was loaded on ships for transport to Korea, the 2nd Battalion of the 1st Brigade at Ft. Bliss turned in their Hawk missiles and related equipment.

WASHINGTON Defense Support Program satellites detected the launch of an Iraqi Scud that killed 28 U.S. soldiers during Desert Storm and provided an alert warning within 50 sec., but a full missile warning report was not forwarded from the DSP network because of a "worst-case combination of events."
