NEW Organized labor leaders in the U.S. will try to enlist President Bill Clinton's support in their campaign against the aerospace/defense industry's use of offsets to sell products globally. Officials of the International Assn, of Machinists and Aerospace Workers expect to raise the issue in a meeting soon at the White House, according to Barbara Shailor, lAM's director of international affairs.

FLAPS SUSPECT IN PEREGRINE CRASH

LOS ANGELES The Peregrine Flight International PJ-2 twoplace jet aircraft crashed on Aug. 4, killing company president and chief executive officer Joseph M. Henderson, Jr. Henderson radioed that he had a flap asymmetry during a go-around at Douglas County Airport, Nev., and company personnel observed the aircraft make several rolls that led to the crash.

WASHINGTON. The U.S. Air Force has embarked upon a $6-billion program to build a fleet of at least seven airborne lasers. Each aircraft would carry enough laser fuel to strike up to 40 enemy missiles at intervals of 35 sec. before having to land and reload.
