Stars Booster Deploys Objects for MSX Tests

A rocket launched last month from the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) on Kauai, Hawaii, deployed 26 objects to evaluate the performance of sensors on the Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX) satellite. Infrared, ultraviolet and visible-light sensors collected size and reflectivity data on targets such as several simulated ballistic missile nose cones and penetration aids that varied in density.

WASHINGTON Motorola is proposing a $6.4-billion network of 72 low-Earth orbit satellites designed to provide businesses with broad bandwidth communications links around the globe. The M-Star system would add a new dimension to the race by U.S. companies to use the high-frequency Ka-band portion of the radio spectrum to rapidly send large quantities of information via satellite.
