For Asia, Drop in U.s. Traffic Began Early
SAN FRANCISCO For Asian carriers, the 3-4-day suspension in flights that followed the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington is being measured against a general slowdown in passenger and cargo traffic that began early this year. Airline officials are uncertain how long the downdraft in their traffic will continue, but few express optimism, especially as they recall how the Persian Gulf war knocked 3.5% off worldwide airline growth a decade ago (AW&ST June 8, 1992, p. 34).
