LONDON EADS is restructuring its military business, with the creation of the Defense & Security Systems Div., partly reflecting its failure to establish a new home for its military aircraft business. EADS had been looking to use its military aircraft business as the core of what it dubbed the European Military Aircraft Co. Intended to be initially a joint venture with Italian industry, this failed to come to fruition.

The Boeing AsiaSat 4 spacecraft, shown in fabrication, is undergoing its initial checkout in space following launch Apr. 11 from Cape Canaveral on board a Lockheed Martin/International Launch Services Atlas III. The flight was the third for the Russian-powered booster.
