Uae Startup Orders First Spacecraft
PARIS Competition for satellite broadcasting and communications in the Middle East is set to heat up with the acquisition of a pair of broadband spacecraft by an Abu Dhabi startup. The company, Yah Satellite Communications Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mubadala Development Co. founded in January, last week ordered two satellites plus the accompanying ground system from EADS Astrium and Thales Alenia Space under a 6-billion United Arab Emirates dirham ($1.66-billion) in-orbit delivery contract.
