Test Force
WASHINGTON The first air-to-air refueling tests for Lockheed Martin’s F-35 are planned to begin this week, clearing the way for the eventual transfer of the first Joint Strike Fighter demonstrators to Edwards AFB, Calif. The start of aerial refueling trials, using the first aircraft (AA-1), marks a surge in activity for the JSF as it coincides with the planned installation this week of a replacement flight-test engine for the first short takeoff and vertical landing (Stovl) F-35B.
