Seizing the Day
WASHINGTON It has been a long time coming, but US Airways has made its first move to take over American Airlines, and the reception, as expected, has been less than welcoming. US Airways’ intentions were already known—months ago, Chairman/CEO Doug Parker said he would seek approval from American’s unions before moving ahead with a takeover plan— but the speed with which he was able to negotiate three labor contracts with American’s historically belligerent organized labor was surprising.
