Thanks to John Croft for writing “LED Astray” (AW&ST Sept. 22, p. 28). Helipad LEDs have created some very unsafe conditions. Several years ago the FAA published an Advisory Circular (AC) on the construction of ground-level and rooftop helipads that recommended the installation of green LED helipad perimeter lights to define the edges of the helipad; this is very important since helipads can be 200 ft. above the street.
