Energy-Dense Lithium-Air Battery U.S. researchers have developed a lithium-air battery that could increase energy density, potentially by as much as four times over conventional lithiumion batteries. With a projected energy density exceeding 1,000 Wh/kg, the battery could potentially power electric commercial aircraft, although it might take a decade or more to move from laboratory to reality.
