Goddard Space Flight Center—Highlights of shuttle Mission 3 payload operations will be the use of the remote manipulator arm to maneuver instruments around the orbiter for interactive investigations with the vehicle and the crew's attempt to observe a beam of electrons to be fired by a fast-pulsed electron gun mounted in the payload bay.

Usaf Seeks Increased Robot Precision

New Orleans—Air Force Materials Laboratory is planning to develop an accuracy sensor that would generate robot control commands six times more precise than those driving robots now in use for fabrication of aircraft parts. A request for proposals covering robotics development to cost $2.85 million is scheduled for issuance Mar. 15 by the laboratory's Computer Integrated Manufacturing Branch.
