Air Force Aeronautical Systems Div. awarded LTV Aircraft Products Group a $ 133.6-million sole-source contract to modernize and reengine two LTV A-7Ds in an A-7 Plus prototype program that could give new life to the nearly 20-year-old Corsair 2 as an interim close air support/battlefield air interdiction aircraft.

Antiquated Rules of Engagement

The attack on the USS Stark in the Persian Gulf by an Iraqi air force Mirage F1 has underscored once again the dangers faced by U. S. military personnel, even in the peacetime execution of U. S. foreign policy. It also is a reminder that advanced technology by itself provides no guarantees of safety if the guidelines are not in place to use that technology effectively.
