Sidewinders Fired From Apache in Assessment Of Helicopter’s Potential in Air-to-Air Role

LOS ANGELES McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Co. AH-64A Apache launched a Sidewinder missile at White Sands Missile Range, N. M., as part of a company-funded effort to evaluate the Apache in an air-to-air combat role. The test was one of two successful Sidewinder launches from an Apache late last year at White Sands (AW&ST, Dec. 7, 1987, p. 31).

USAF Awards $4.9 Million in Contracts For A-10 Follow-on Design Studies

WASHINGTON The Air Force has awarded contracts worth a total of $4.9 million to six airframe manufacturers to begin design studies for a new close air support aircraft to replace the Fairchild Republic A-10. General Dynamics received a $1-million award and Northrop, $756,000.
