While the report of the Director of Air Service is dated in August, it has in it practically a summary of the Air Service of the Army as it exists today. By far the most important part of the report is the recommendations which are made at the end of the report.

National Advisory Committee Report for 1920

The sixth annual report of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics was submitted to the President by Dr. Charles D. Wolcott, chairman, and transmitted to Congress by the President with the comment: “The national aviation policy as formulated by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and the constructive recommendations therein set forth for the consideration of the Congress have the hearty approval of the departments concerned as well as myself.”

The Effect of Elevator Weight

The weight of the elveators may be a very important factor in the performance of an airplane, but very little thought has been given, in the past, to this problem. It is the purpose of the present paper, to consider in detail the effect on stability and control ability of the elevator weight.

Air Service Special Service Schools

To carry out the general policy of progressive training established by G.O. No. 112, W.D., 1920, the Air Service has obtained approval of the War Department for the establishment of special service schools of the Air Service, as follows: Pilots’ schools at Carlstrom Field, Arcadia, Fla., and at March Field, Riverside, Calif.

A Railway for Testing Full Size Airplanes*

In Figs. 1 and 2 is shown a tower, placed on a modification of a railway truck, which is pulled along by a locomotive. On top of the tower is placed the full size airplane to be tested. The airplane is connected to the tower in such a manner that a variety of indicating app ara atus is brought into play.
