Landing Field Information

The classification of landing fields, technically known as airdromes, was one of the subjects decided at a meeting held at the Bureau of Standards on Jan. 16 in connection with the Aeronautical Safety Code. Two distinct kinds of classification were adopted. Fields are to be classed as A, B, C or D according to their effective dimensions; and as 1, 2, 3, or 4 in accordance with their facilities for taking care of aircraft and personnel.

Collier Trophy to Air Mail Service

The Contest Committee of the National Aeronautic Association of U.S.A., has awarded the Collier Aeronautical Trophy for the greatest achievement demonstrated in the actual use of aviation in America for the year 1922, to the personnel of the Air Mail Service.

Merger of French Airway Companies

An important merger of French airway companies which had been contemplated for some time has now been brought to a successful conclusion under the auspices of the French air department. The Compagnie des Grands Express Aériens, which has been operating Farman Goliath machines on the Paris-London and Paris-Lausanne routes, has merged with the Compagnie des Messageries Aériennes, which operates services between Paris and London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam, and Paris and Le Havre.
