AVIATION has frequently had to report cases where the Irving Air Chute — the standard equipment of the Army Air Service — has proved its extreme utility. Occasions have arisen in the past where the lives of the occupants of an airplane became imperiled by reason of mechanical breakages or collisions in the air, rendering the plane unmanageable, or through motor failure over localities where it was impossible to make a safe landing, all of which would have culminated disastrously but for the fact that they had the good fortune to carry a parachute with them.
