How to Splice a Wooden Wing Beam

IN a recent examination for mechanics’ licenses the question was asked, “Where would you splice a broken wooden wing beam?” A number of applicants answered, “I would splice a broken wing beam at the place where it was broken.” Since this appears to be the opinion of a number of pilots, mechanics and others, and since the actual construction of the splice is not known by many, this article has been prepared.
