AF Captain Charged With Irregularities

Filing of three charges in a court martial action against a former Air Materiel Command contracting officer was the highlight of three separate actions in recent developments on alleged Air Force procurement irregularities. Capt. Jerry Mitchell, Jr., 31, Dayton, will face a military tribunal at a future date on charges of gross negligence, recklessness in performance of duty and accepting gratuities.

YB-52 Makes First Flight at Seattle

The Air Force’s eight-jet YB-52 Stratofortress bomber last week made its first flight of 2 hr. 51 min., taking off from Boeing Field, Seattle, and landing at Larson AFB, Moses Lake, Wash. Although the air base is only 180 airline miles away, Boeing Test Pilot A. M. (Tex) Johnson did “a lot of circling around,” in the test hop.
