Temco to Build McDonnell Demon

Heavy Navy dependence on the McDonnell F3H Demon as its standard sweptwing transonic carrier-based fighter was indicated last week in a licensing agreement and contract with the Temco Aircraft Corp. to build the Demon in Dallas. Temco’s Demon production will augment that of McDonnell Aircraft Corp. in St. Louis where production tooling for the new Navy jet fighter already is under way.

O’konski Renews Attack on Kaiser

The running battle between industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and Rep. Alvin O’Konski flared again last week after several weeks’ lull. O’Konski touched off the latest skirmish. In a lengthy statement in the Congressional Record, the Wisconsin legislator claimed that everything he had charged against Kaiser in his original attack (AVIATION WEEK June 2, p. 12) was correct.

The Navy may soon join the airline and private pilots in a fight against CAA’s use of the recently introduced change of the international alphabet. Navy’s Office of Naval Operations is gathering documentary evidence, including the official resolutions of the International Federation of Air Line Pilot Assns., the Air Line Pilots Assn., and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Assn.

Societe Nationale de Constructions Aeronautiques du Sud-Ouest is running an intensive flight test program on the jet-and-rocket-powered interceptor SO 6025, latest in the Espadon series.
