Board Cites 1049h Pilot Incapacitation

On Dec. 14, 1962, at 2212 PST, a Flying Tiger Line, Inc., Super Constellation, N 6913C, crashed about 1-¼4 mi. west of the Lockheed Air Terminal, Burbank, Calif., during an ILS approach to Runway 7. All five persons on board the aircraft and three persons on the ground sustained fatal injuries.

Munich—Two experimental prototypes of Dornier-Werke GmbH’s Do. 31 light V/STOL transport are scheduled to roll out and begin flight testing next year, according to Claudius Dornier, Jr., managing director of the company’s aircraft division.

Washington—National Aeronautics and Space Administration procurement totaled $3.231 billion in Fiscal 1963, with 93%—slightly over $3 billion—going to private industry. The space agency’s Fiscal 1963 procurement represents a 108% increase over Fiscal 1962, during which the procurement totaled $1.55 billion.

Ge Designs Navigation Satellite Network

Washington—Navigation network of 24 pulse-repeater satellites and six ground stations that would give ships and aircraft worldwide position fixes with accuracies of ±1 naut. mi. has been developed by General Electric Co. It is being prepared for the civilian navigation system now under study by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (AW Feb. 24, p. 37).
