Woodland Hills, Calif.—The navigation/attack system of the Air Force’s F-111A tactical fighter, being developed here by Litton Systems, Inc., contains an unusual course offset feature that will enable the aircraft’s pilot to make an accurate bomb run on a pre-assigned target, which may be hidden from the fighter’s radar.

Tac Evaluates Ground Support Capability in Maneuvers

New concepts of air-ground support in forward combat areas are being evaluated by USAF’s Tactical Air Command at Eglin AFB, Fla., under simulated wartime or counter-insurgency operations. Observers at the large-scale exercises include personnel from TAC’s Special Air Warfare Center, which has developed tactics and trained USAF pilots and ground crews for Vietnam.

Mr. Hodges’ dreary statistics (AW June 15, p. 118) only serve to confirm that war is indeed expensive. However, as is typical of many statistic quoters, he presents only those designed to prove his point (which was, I’ll admit, somewhat obscure).

Ranger TV Performed Near Design Point

Princeton, N. J.—Preliminary performance evaluation of the Ranger 7 television subsystem payload indicates all video system avionics came close to design point and worked as expected. In general, the TV subsystem met all specifications, according to Bernard P. Miller, Ranger program manager at Radio Corp. of America’s Astro-Electronics Div., which produced the TV subsystem here for Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
