U.s.-mexican Traffic Dispute Unresolved

Mexico City—Formal extension of the U. S.-Mexico bilateral agreement has not resolved the basic differences between the two countries over how the increasing air traffic between them should be regulated. A top official of one of the American carriers serving Mexico believes that the recent decision to extend the treaty to June 30, 1965, was essentially an agreement to disagree, permitting the airlines to serve the growing number of passengers without disruption.

British Emphasize Thin-film Microcircuits

London—Growing interest and activity is evident on the part of British avionics manufacturers in the application of microcircuitry, usually referred to here as microminiaturization or “micromin” for short. In many ways the situation resembles that which existed in the U. S. two years ago, before the Bureau of Naval Weapons pushed the semiconductor microcircuit business off dead center with its program to apply the technique to existing hardware and to a family of new avionic equipments.

Sperry Rand Proposes Cabling Technique to Simulate Gravity

Washington—Artificial gravity space station proposed by Sperry Rand Corp. would make first use of cabling between separated booster and manned laboratory for overcoming one of the chief known hazards to long-duration space flight. Sperry studied the concept for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Langley Research Center and concluded that artificial gravity can be created by keeping a separated manned space station and a spent booster rocket casing connected by cables and then spinning them to obtain centrifugal force.
