Sacramento, Calif.—Over-all test program for the S-4B Saturn vehicle stage is being reassessed as a result of delays in initiating battleship tank tests here, coupled with slippage in S-4B production schedules and a catastrophic failure of the hydrostatic test tank during hydrostatic testing.

London-Latest innovations in the British Decca hyperbolic navigation system for aircraft use, which give it most of the operational conveniences of VOR/DME while retaining its higher intrinsic accuracy, will be demonstrated in the U. S. during the next several weeks to military and civil aviation officials.

Army, Usaf Testing Air Support Roles

Washington—Opposing Air Force and Army tactical air philosophies for supporting forward-area ground forces in a conventional war environment may be tested next year in a side-by-side field evaluation of the two concepts. A recommendation to the Joint Chiefs of Staff as to whether such an evaluation is needed to determine which theory should be adopted—or which parts of the two should be melded together as shared roles-and-missions efforts between the services—is expected to be made after the conclusion of this fall’s unilateral field tests of the concepts involved.
