Usaf Seeks Funds to Speed Its Scramjet, Hypersonic Flight Program

Andrews AFB, Md.—Air Force Systems Command is making a maximum effort to obtain funds to accelerate its scramjet (supersonic-combustion ramteclmology program. jet) propulsion and hypersonic flight AFSC Chief Scientist Dr. B. H. Goethert believes there will be a scramjet-powered research vehicle flying by 1975 as a follow-on to the present rocket-powered X-l5 aircraft.

Washington—Increasing Air Force interest in immediate acquisition of a counter-insurgency aircraft has prompted Cessna Aircraft Co. to resume flight demonstrations of its YAT-37D turbojet attack aircraft. The current version of the YAT-37D —modified as a result of tests last year at Eglin AFB development center (AW &ST July 13, 1964, p. 36)—was flown here recently by this AVIATION WEEK & SPACE TECHNOLOGY pilot.
