Comet Flyby Studied for Mariner Backup

Athens—National Aeronautics and Space Administration could stage a flvby of the comet Pons-Winnecke in 1969-70 for $15-$20 million, using the Mariner 4 backup spacecraft and a General Dynamics/Lockheed Atlas-Agena launch vehicle, according to Reece C. Jensen of Philco Western Development Laboratories.

The Hague—KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has reversed a trend of heavy losses and may reach the break-even point on its operations in its current fiscal year for the first time since 1960. The tide turned last year when KLM’s annual net loss dropped to $3.3 million from the previous vear’s deficit of $13.8 million.

Vertol to Increase Helicopter Production

Morton, Pa.—Combined production rate of Boeing Vertol CH-46A Sea Knight and CH-47A Chinook helicopters will exceed 25 per month by the end of this year as the company pushes to fulfill Defense Dept.’s order to double production of both aircraft. By next year, the combined rate may be over 40 helicopters monthly.
