Saigon—Rapid growth of the Vietnamese Air Force (VNAF) is beginning to taper off after three years of intensive buildup to the present 16-squadron level and emphasis now is shifting to improving training and building experience. Next long-range step in molding this young, aggressive air force into a still more effective and self-sufficient unit will be modernization, which will include adding Northrop F-5A tactical fighter aircraft to the inventory.

With final steps under way for formal acquisition of the center’s 29.2-acre urban renewal site in the Kendall Square area, groundbreaking for the first permanent buildings is planned for early summer.

Geneva—Knut Hammarskjöld will take over Apr. 15 as Director General of the International Air Transport Assn, in the major managerial change undertaken by the organization since it was revived in 1945 following World War 2. Hammarskjöld replaces Sir William Hildred, who held the post during the entire postwar period.
