Air Force's Military Airlift Command, the Defense Dept.'s single manager for airlift, will contract for at least $500 million from the commercial carriers during the current fiscal year, about $400 million of it for international services.

Longer Flight Test Time Needed for Sst

Washington-Testing of the U.S. supersonic transport to achieve FAA certification will require about 3,600 hr., compared with about 1,700 hr. for a subsonic transport such as the Boeing 727. The program will place unprecedented requirements on the flight test organization and its supporting elements sincc it is tailored to a big rather than a gradual advance in airline equipment complexity.
