Advanced F-111 System Nears Production

Los Angeles—First flight of the General Dynamics F-111D with the advanced avionics system—intended to enable the Air Force F-111 to fulfill its earlier promise—is scheduled this fall. Elements of the system, once called Mk. 2 avionics (AW&ST June 6, 1966, p. 93), already have undergone successful trials, and a more modest version of the system is being tested aboard the FB-111A bomber version of the F-111.
