Hoover’s Aerobatics a Key Factor in Shrike Sales Increase

Los Angeles-Aerobatic demonstrations flown by North American Rockwell pilot Robert A. Hoover in an Aero Commander Shrike sparked more than 50 orders for the aircraft last year, a company official said. R. N. Robinson, president of North American Rockwell’s General Aviation Division, believes Hoover’s demonstrations are responsible for at least 50% of the 105 Shrike orders written during 1969 (see box p. 44).

Thieves Thriving at Bustling Heathrow

London-Losses due to day and night criminal activity of professional and amateur thieves reached a record $2 million at Heathrow Airport last year, the British Airports Authority said. Of this, only $606,000 has been recovered. Airport authorities said the largest amount of losses comes through thefts from mailbags and passenger baggage, and some of these are never reported, sending the dollar losses even higher.
