Economic Problems of Locals Resist Jets, New Authority
Local service airlines are bumping their way through turbulent times with still no assurance they all will be able to fight their way out of their problems to become a viable arm of the air transport industry under present policies. The group of nine local, or regional, carriers generally serving the smaller cities and shorter routes within the 48 continental states has so far failed to harness turbine power profitably to their systems, scheduled airline industry's total domestic The nine carrier's combined net losses sank to about $55.8 million last year.
