Wideband Laser Link Test Planned

Palo Alto, Calif.-Feasibility of an extremely wide bandwidth laser communication system for future satellite relay programs has been demonstrated at Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. Research Laboratory here. The system is designed for transmitting analog data at high rates from a low-orbiting satellite to a remote ground station, using one or more geosynchronous satellites as relays, said Dr. Romayne F. Whitmer, manager of Lockheed’s Electro-Optical Sciences Laboratory.
