Phoenix Fire Control Unit Expanded

Los Angeles-Phoenix missile fire control system is being expanded and adapted to increase its effectiveness in critical missions of the Navy’s new Grumman F-14A/B air superiority fighter. The reconfigured AWG-9 fire control system will enhance performance of the Phoenix missiles beyond what was anticipated from the General Dynamics F-111B fleet defense interceptor, for which the system originally was developed by Hughes Aircraft Co. (AW&ST Sept. 11, 1967, p. 59).

Anti-pollution Aid Keyed to Air Drop

Little Creek, Va.-U.S. Coast Guard hopes to have its Air-Droppable Anti-Pollution Transfer System (Adapts) operational on the East Coast this fall. The system, basically a network of Uniroyal 500-ton capacity sea-floating rubberized nylon tanks and high-speed pumps, is designed to avert or at least minimize massive oil spills by getting oil off stricken tankers before or shortly after the ship’s hold is damaged.
