Precision inertial navigation system incorporating nearly 15 years of research and development on drift-free electrostatic gyros will begin undergoing flight tests soon in a USAF Boeing KC-135 transport at Holloman AFB. The use of these promising, unconventional gyros offers hope of achieving unusually high accuracy in the absence of spurious torques that normally cause gyros to drift, thereby degrading their accuracy.
