Advanced Rotor Concept Tested

Farmingdale, N. Y.—Fairchild’s Republic Div. has tested a model of its reversed velocity rotor at speeds up to 400-plus mph. The rotor system has been considered by the Navy for use in a pure, high-speed helicopter on sea control ships. Studies and model tests of the 1/7 scale rotor are being funded by Naval Air Systems Command, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Ames Research Center has provided use of its 12ft. pressure tunnel.
