F-14 Demonstrates Agile Aerial Combat Capabilities

On Board USS America at Sea—Two squadrons of Navy/Grumman F-14As are giving the Sixth Fleet an added dimension in fleet protection against attacking cruise missiles and aircraft. The combination of automatic positioning of the F-14 variable-geometry wing, tunneling effect formed by the area between engine nacelles, engine power arid pitch control make the aircraft an agile and formidable air combat fighter in addition to its well known role with the long-range AIM 54A Phoenix missile in defending the fleet against cruise missiles.
