(b) Computed stopping distance —The stopping distance required from touchdown is given in Table 1 [below]. The distances are based on a dry runway, an aircraft weight of 125,000 lb., an 84F temperature and no wind. Full braking and spoiler deployment is assumed 2 sec. after touchdown.

Washington— Final crew training for the most detailed space shuttle/Spacelab mission simulation ever conducted is concluding this week at the Johnson Space Center, Houston. A two-day, full dress rehearsal will be held May 10-11 for the seven-day simulation that begins May 17.

Washington— Langley Research Centers hypersonic propulsion branch has passed a major milestone by burning hydrogen propellant for the first time in a one-third scale model of an air-breathing supersonic combustion ramjet (scramjet) engine that is the forerunner of powerplants that would be used on future hypersonic research or operational aircraft.
